American Idol Critique - Week Three Boys (8)
And so we come to the final chance for the boys.
1. Gedeon McKenney - 'When A Man Loves A Woman' (Percy Sledge)
Good song for the G man. It's right from his era of music. Too bad this isn't American Idol '66. His vocal was a tad pitchy. Not too bad, just a bit. He is a likeable guy and him and Marty McFly could have a real big musical career.
2. Chris Daughtry - 'Broken ' (Seether)
Man, this guy can deliver this Alt Rock stuff. I don't much care for it. But he knows his wheelhouse and he swings right through it. Not much to add. I don't think this genre will sell to the 13 year old girls from suburban Chicago, However he will need to stretch out if he's gonna win this.
3. Kevin Covais - 'Vincent' (Don McLean)
My Grandmother would love this sappy crap. But sappy crap is pretty much all this munchkin can do. It was an ok performance. But this is one of the best songs ever written. It's a damn shame that Don McLean has to be attached to that stupid 'Bye Bye American Pie' drivel. When He is resposible for this great song. This is the first 'buh bye' performance of the night. If nobody does a worse job, Chicken Little could be gone.
4. Bucky Covington - Some Boring Country Song (Somebody who should embarrased that they wrote or performed this song)
Oh my God! There is another one of these Kodiak chew, NASCAR watchin', pickup truck steerin', good ole boys at home? This was a mondane singer, performing a drab song, in a yawn way. Bucky is going home unless somebody else implodes.
5. Will Makar - 'How Sweet It Is' (Marvin Gaye)
Whooo Boy is this bad! This guy needs to book his room at the terminally white-bread hotel. That was big time useless. Looks like Will might be booking his bus ticket with Bucky. James Taylors version of this was like Shaft Bad-Ass compared to this.
6. Taylor HIcks - 'Takin' It To The Streets' (The Doobie Brothers)
God Damn in the Jelly Roll Jam. That was smokin'. Katherine McPhee, Kellie Pickler and Will Makar, take note. This is what Blue-eyed Soul looks and sounds like. I played this back 3x. And I might just do it again. This boy is cut in the mold of the great white soul singers like Bill Medley, Mitch Ryder and Michael McDonald. A force to be reconed with.
7. Elliot Yamin - 'Heaven' - Bryan Adams
I'm sorry, I can't get passed this guys goofy look. It's kind of a fun goofy look. I mean I'd love to party with this guy. But still it is not American Idol look. The performance tonight was not one of his best but it was ok. He'll go on for sure.
8. Ace Young- 'Butterflies' (Michael Jackson)
I didn't like the falsetto. I thought it lacked tone. The rest of the song was plenty good. He even played with the song a bit. That was nice. Beenie boy will move on.
So, It looks like Kevin Covais, despite the elementry school girl vote will be leaving with Bucky boy.
Quck and easy tonight.
Thanks for playing

First of all, this subject should have been:
WEAK 3 - Boys

His vocal was a tad pitchy.
Good peformance.
, However he will need to stretch out if
Bored me to tears. He sings the same darn song every week. The Creed sound just doesn't do it for me. Right now he seems like a one trick pony. And stop it with the hello hand gestures at the opening of the show.
Nice kid. Decent voice, but no way does Simon or the producers want him to win American Idol.
Agreed. BORING!
Terrible.
Ok. Nothing great this week. One of the best of a bad week of performances.
Very good voice - wrong song choice.
Decent performance of a lousy song.
Kevin may hang on as Will and Bucky should be voted off.

That song was nominated for a Grammy for best country song in 2004. While I think Pat Green is good, I can't stand that song. However, it was on the radio every damn day last year, so apparently it's well liked by lots of others around here.

This guy should win. I think his voice is great and his moves are well choreographed. I don't like his material but it suits him.
I'd call it a muscular performance. It's probably almost as good as Gideon's performance.
Just terrible. This guy has got to go.
I thought he was OK. Competent. That's better than most here.
Execrable. Truly dismal. Has to lose this week.
He's well liked. I don't like his voice much. I like his body language even less.
This guy looks like a retard. I think some people feel sorry for him so he'll stay.
This was really a terrible performance. If this guy wasn't good looking he'd be gone this week for sure. I don't know why the judges liked his crap.
Will will be gone, not Bucky.

'Titanic' is the largest grossing movie of all time and it isn't even James Camrons best movie. Beyonce Knowles song from 'The Pink Panther' was the number one selling song for 6 weeks and still it's crap. And last but not least was this years Oscar winning song. I don't think I need to say anything about that. Sales, Charts and Award nomintations, does not a good or interesting song make.
Thanks for playing

Hey, I like Beyonce's song, which is called 'Check On It' and is very catchy.
So is 'It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp', the Oscar winner.
What was that old American Bandstand saying? 'It has a good beat and I can dance to it'.
