I'm rooting for the Sox, but I've got bad news for all the other Red Sox fans who talk all this talk about how the curse was lifted when they beat the Yankees. Sorry, but that is just plain premature. If the Sox win the series, then, yes, the curse was lifted. But if they *lose* the series, then that shows that the curse is still there. Simple as that.

I work with a few really hardcore Boston fans and they are of course excited, but one privately admitted to me yesterday that he's kind of scared of them winning. The idea that there is some mystical force preventing them from winning a series is a great out, because in his words, 'without the curse we've just been losers for 80 years.'

Finally someone else realizes it, I can't tell you how many times people have said that the curse is lifted now, no it's not, the curse had to deal with the World Series not beating the Yankees.

Nah, the curse isn't lifted at all. But the euphoria is well earned: now the Yankees have to wear the 'choke artist' shame mantle for the winter, and it's usually the other way around.

I heard something on the news today that was interesting, if the Red Sox win tomorrow then game 4, the game where the Red Sox could dispel the curse forever, is on Wed. well on Wed. night at around 9:30PM there's going to be a lunar eclipse, hubby and I were wondering if that event will cause the curse of the Bambino to live on.

Interesting... or the eclipse could cause the curse to be lifted forevermore! : )
We're all too superstitious! I have my own theories about this series, but I'm even afraid to speak them!!

LOL, I'm a Yankee fan and I swear the Yankees lost because the Yankees started talking at the beginning of the year of building a new stadium across the street from where the stadium is now. I'm usually not superstitious but for some reason I am when it comes to my favorite sport teams : ).

Ow, I'm sorry! I mean, I'm glad we won but I'm not really a vindictive, shove crow down your throat type.
You're right about the talk of the new stadium... that definitely put the hurt on! NY, Boston, and Chi Cubs must stay exactly where they are now or risk all new curses!

LOL, that's ok, I even have no problem with a Red Sox fan who is vindictive, A Yankee/RedSox series can bring out the worst in fans from either side but that's what makes it so good. BTW my hubby is a Mets fan and he and his friends and other Mets fans have been sooooooo obnoxious, the pains in the asses have been gloating like you wouldn't believe with their rooting for the Red Sox, they're not even hiding their happiness, you just want to slap their silly grins off their faces : ).
That was too bad about last year, if the Yankees were going to lose then I wanted a Red Sox/Cubs World Series. Of course I would've been rooting for the Cubs : ).

Baseball has had a number of such curses. The 'Curse of the Billygoat,' which has kept the Chicago Cubs from winning anything for 60 years and the 'Curse of Colavito,' which has stalked the Cleveland Indians since the 50s.

Dan Shaughnessy wrote an excellent piece in Friday's Boston Globe stating just that. Soooo many people in my office are getting their hopes up, saying 'this is the year' but it's way premature to think that when there are 5 games left...there's no reason to think that the Cardinals couldn't pull off what the Sox did and win the last 4 of 7 games.
I'm rooting for the Sox but don't understand how people get so carried away with this curse, 'Cowboy Up' and 'Who's Your Daddy?' stuff. If New York wants to think that Boston's full of rednecks, well, we certainly give them reason to think that. As for the 'curse,' I think it's more a case of the Yankees being a stronger team. Sox fans don't want to admit it, but it's hard to deny.
