Movie maker Steven Soderbergh's strict rules on the set of his new movie Full Frontal almost cost Julia Roberts her punctual reputation - because she got lost trying to find the set. The Traffic director sent his stars, including Roberts, Brad Pitt, David Duchovny and Catherine Keener, a list of rules with their scripts - to make sure they all knew what was expected of them. Soderbergh's reasons for the strictness were to make sure the movie cost no more than $2 million to make. The rules stipulated that all the actors had to provide their own wardrobe, maintain their own hair and make-up and drive themselves to and from the set every day. And it was the latter that had Roberts in a mess on the first day in Downtown Los Angeles. She says, 'I got lost. I mean, who knows where Flower Street is? But I was on time. I'm always on time.' Soderbergh admits he picked actors he knew wouldn't be bothered about the lack of on-set comforts, which even included the lack of a trailer. He explains, 'I chose people who I knew were going to get with the program. Take Julia, for instance. She likes the process. She's not one of those people who likes to isolate herself. She doesn't stay in her trailer all day. She likes being around people.'

I don't believe that shit for a mintue. Especally him sending one to Roberts. NO WAY JOSE! >>

This is in no way a defense for Mr. Ed, Julia Roberts, but this was reported way before they began filming. I can totally see Soderbergh working this way. He is brilliant and very clever, and it's a given that no matter how big a star is, they don't control his set. He is the boss. If he had his actors follow these rules for this movie, then I believe JR did, too.

Prezactly. She needs him more than he needs her now. Not that she needs him, per se, but you know what I'm saying

Without Soderbergh, she wouldn't have her Oscar, but without Roberts, Soderbergh would still have his.

Fave Soderbergh flick: 'The Limey'.

I'm really looking forward to 'Full Frontal'. Shame that JR's in it.

I agree. He doesn't need her, thank God. I wonder if he ever did...'stars' bring their own 'thing' to a movie, but when it comes to a star getting an Oscar they have the director to thank for that. Don't forget, Soderbergh was DOUBLE-nominated that year, with EB and Traffic...so, obviously he didn't need JR for his Oscar.

I love Soderbergh. I think I've seen all his work, except for an older thing called 'Schizopolis'. I don't like JR, so I'm not so excited about 'Full Frontal', but I will see it...for Soderbergh. My fave Soderbergh is 'Traffic' b/c also Benicio Del Toro was effin' BRILLIANT...got him an Oscar, too.

I loved 'The Limey'. That's what turned me onto this great director.
