Reading about the 1945 awards and how they took 90 minutes to present got me thinking. What if WE were the boss of everything and could decide what is and isn't televised? Hmmm? What would you pick to show? I think I'd go with...

Best Supporting Actor Best Supporting Actress Best Animated Feature Best Cinematography Best Costume Design Best Visual Effects Best Original Screenplay Best Adapted Screenplay Best Song Best Foreign Language Film Best Actor Best Actress Best Director Best Picture

I think last night they televised 24 categories and this cuts it to 14 - I think that would give the speakers plenty of time to hang themselves, and you could do some *fabulous* retrospectives/tributes/honorariums up right. Anyhoo, just a thought. Any other thoughts, sweeties?

Good ideas - simplification is good! I agree with most of them. There are a lot of categories that are superfluos to most of America, but important in the industry in LA which you have missed. One of them is sound and until I married a musician and got an education I was unaware of how much sound contributed to a film. I never would have thought about it, but after thinking about my husband's suggestions and realizing how much sound contributes to the drama and emotion of a film I realize that it is a very important element - especially as so many people are unknowingly brainwashed by the sound - music and effects - of a particular scene. Sound is a very important element in film. Just watch a very action oriented or drama/emotional film without the sound and see how you react... The music is usually the one indicator you have in advance to prepare your for a new, unexpected or unusual scene.
