VERO BEACH, Fla. (AP) - The wife of 'America's Most Wanted' host John Walsh has filed for divorce and sought custody of the couple's two children.

In a petition filed at the Indian River County Courthouse, Reve Walsh said her 31-year marriage was irretrievably broken.

Neither Reve Walsh nor her West Palm Beach attorney, Georgia Newman, immediately returned calls seeking comment.

Reve Walsh is seeking alimony, child support, exclusive use of the marital home, medical and other insurance, attorneys fees and costs and equitable distribution of their assets, according to the petition, which was filed earlier this month.

John Walsh acknowledged in court documents that 'there are marital difficulties at this time,' but denies the marriage is irretrievably broken.

He asked the court to delay the divorce hearing until he and his wife can attend marriage counseling.

The Walshes' son, Adam, then 6, was abducted July 27, 1981, from a Broward County Sears. His head was found 14 days later and 120 miles away in a canal on the west side of Vero Beach.

Adam's death led his parents to co-found the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in Alexandria, Va., in 1984.

'America's Most Wanted' has been credited with helping capture 681 fugitives over a 15-year period, according to a report of the Florida 2001 Missing Children Day ceremony in Tallahassee.

'STUPIDITY IS NOT A HANDICAP. Park elsewhere!'

Remember John and his wife were going to sue Sears for the lack of security, when their son Adam was kidnapped and murdered. Sears told them that they would bring up the affair that the Mrs. had with the killer who was living with them. What John didn't do was right, but he is the saint in this marriage.

I worked for the Hollywood newspaper, the Sun-Tattler, when the Walsh kidnapping and threatened lawsuit took place, and we all became pretty familiar with the case and the Walshes. I've never heard this story, although I am personally aware of John Walsh's reaction after we editorialized against his suing Sears. It wasn't pretty. The sentiment at the time was that the Walshes dropped the suit because public opinion was very much against it.

The Walshes were fairly well-known around Hollywood, including to law enforcement officials, and the marriage allegedly was more than rocky before the murder took place, as well as after it. A lot of people are surprised that they remained married this long.

John Walsh is not the favorite person of many people acquainted with him.

PS Our lead reporter on the Walsh story, who was Pulitzer-nominated for his work, was Charlie Brennan. He later went to Denver, where he became the lead reporter on the Ramsey case.

Wasn't Mick Jagger who sang a song called 'Star F**ker'?

Anyone who is famous is a legit target. Even the little guy in 'Austin Powers'.

What business was he in that would make him well known in Hollywood..didn't they live elsewhere? And if you could explain why the public was against the lawsuit? Sorry for being such a brick... If you have a link that's cool too..

They lived in Hollywood Fl a small town .. North of Miami and South of Ft Lauderdale. John managed a hotel either in the Bahamas or Carribbean at the time Adam was abducted. He was away from home most of the time.
