Jodie Foster has declared her atheism several times
when interviewed by Dan McLeod in 1997 in answer to his question about her stance in the debate between science and religion she said
there is no direct evidence, so how could you ask me to believe in God when there’s absolutely no evidence that I can see?
In the same year on Good Morning America as the topic turned to her religious beliefs
she explained the “god of the gaps” concept, and that the “gaps” are continually getting tighter and tighter, and that we’re running out of room for god as an explanation for the mystical.
When asked by Entertainment Weekly directly if she was religious she answered
No, I’m an atheist. But I absolutely love religions and the rituals. Even though I don’t believe in God. We celebrate pretty much every religion in our family with the kids. They love it, and when they say, Are we Jewish? or Are we Catholic? I say, Well, I’m not, but you can choose when you’re 18. But isn’t this fun that we do seders and the Advent calendar?”
Aside from her being a brilliant and talented actress she is also very eloquent in explaining her (non) beliefs.
