If you're a fan of celebrity couples getting back together, don't be holding your breath for Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey.

Having announced their split in November, it seems they aren't hanging around with news that Jessica has already filed for divorce.

According to IMDB, Jess has cited 'irreconcilable differences' as the reason for the breakdown of their three year marriage.

She's applied not to pay alimony to her Newlyweds co-star - but if this is rejected she will have to pay Nick half of her lucrative earnings since they married because they didn't have a pre-nuptial agreement.

When they walked down the aisle in 2002, Nick was actually the successful one with the bigger bank balance due to his boyband 98 Degrees.

However, Jessica has since become enormously famous, with both a thriving film and singing career.

It's estimated that she's now worth about $54million and under Californian law, any money made during a marriage is equally split if there's no pre-nup in place.

When a marriage fails, especially after such a short time, I think it's only fair that you walk out with what you went in with plus half of everything earned during the marriage.

Since she refused to sign the prenup he asked her to sign prior to their wedding, I take great glee in the thought that she now has to share what she earned during their marriage with him.

I see her father's hand in the signature refusal and dollar signs in his eyes over the possibility of Jessica getting half of what Nick had made during his career, not anticipating the way events would transpire.

Can you tell that I cannot stand her? And her talentless little sister, too. Ugh. I see her on magazine covers and am so glad I don't have any kids who would find either of these two appealing or clamor to spend money on any products that they manufacture or shill for.

I wish him great success, whether it be with someone with a brain and a clue or with a host of Hooters waitresses. Would be sweet if his TV show turned out to be a hit.

The reporter is confused. Alimony is continuing support after the dissolution of the marriage. It's extremely unlikely that a judge would award alimony to a healthy, young person with no children to care for. Community property is a WHOLE different ball of wax.

I have to admit, I'm pleased to Lachey benefit from these laws, especially if the reports are true that she refused to sign a pre-nup when he was the one with the cash. I don't know why she grates on me, but she does.

I agree with all of you that I cant stand her and I dont know she and her sister irritate me as much as they do. I am a little confused though as I never heard about him offering a pre-nup. Is that fact? And she wouldnt sign it? curious. I did not think he had offered one for signing as I was under the impresion that when they went into this, they were both believing in the for better for worse part and not the I need to move on you're a drag part.
