BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) - Brazil's Supreme Court said Thursday Mexician pop singer Gloria Trevi, who has been under arrest for more than two years, may await extradition under house arrest.
Supreme Court President Marco Aurelio Mello issued the decision transferring Trevi and her 5-month-old son to a convent on Brasilia's south side.
The order also applies to Maria Raquenel Portillo, Trevi's choreographer, but a legal mix-up leaves her manager, Sergio Andrade, behind bars for the time being.
Mexican judge Juan Ramirez Ruiz wants to try the three on charges of abducting and raping teenage girls who were in their care.
They fled Mexico to escape prosecution but were arrested in Rio de Janeiro in January 2000.
Brazil's Supreme Court decided in December 2000 to extradite Trevi to Mexico, but her defense has filed numerous injunctions attempting to revert the decision. A request for political asylum was rejected in March of last year.
