my local sportscaster said, a major California daily will publish 'an informed source' that the baseball players union has chosen September 16 as a strike date.

Yes....Buck Belue reported it on his show on 680 The Fan. The players said that they did not want to strike before the first anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, and since paychecks are issued on 9/15, a 9/16 strike date would only have one non-pay period on the 30th. Of course, MLB is *denying* (cough cough) that any strike date has been set. The owners are also denying they will lock out the players.

I have always said (but not on this board) that Don Fehr will eventually bring about the death of baseball. If he and his pampered millionaires actually go through with this strike, that will sound the death knell.

It's so unfortunate that many of these millionaire .198 hitters can't see the forest for the trees.

Here's hoping cooler heads (and smarter ones) will stop this idiotic strike.

God knows with the economy, we need the 'national pasttime' now more than ever. Call me an optimist...they've done everything in the world over the last years to ruin baseball, but so far, it hasn't worked. I have to keep faith (being naive or not...).
