Diana Ross Cancels Concert Tour

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Pop diva Diana Ross, who checked herself into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center two months ago, has canceled the remaining dates of her summer concert tour, a spokeswoman said on Thursday.

No reason was given for halting the 14-date, 10-city North American outing, which opened last week at the Westbury Music Fair in New York and continued with performances in Boston and in Ontario, Canada, before the tour was scrubbed. A spokeswoman for the 58-year-old singer confirmed reports that she had canceled the rest of the tour schedule but declined to answer questions. 'There is no comment,' she said. In late May, the singer's publicist said the Motown veteran had 'voluntarily entered' the residential treatment facility Promises in Malibu, California, to 'clear up some personal issues' before embarking on her tour. The publicist, Paul Bloch, said at the time, 'She wanted to be in great shape because she is someone who feels a sense of responsibility to her family and her fans.' Bloch said then that Ross had been at the facility for about 10 days, but it was not known when she left the center. According to industry trade magazine Pollstar, the tour's confirmed itinerary was to have resumed Aug. 9 with a two-night stand at the Cerritos Center in Southern California, then continue with six more stops on the West Coast. Ross also performed June 26 in Germany, her spokeswoman said.

The problem is that Ross is not on that artistic level. She was more a performer along the lines of a Liberace, more show than substance. But after her negative image took over, the general public didn't even want the show.

She will end up like Eartrha Kitt and do quite well. Remeber, Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Forence Ballard made Motown.

End up like Eartha? Not exactly high thinking, eh? Yes, the Supremes were an integral part of the Motown cog, but the public has turned on Ross.

The public didn't turn on Ross, they finally saw her for what she has always been which is an untalented hack.

Lots of untalented hacks have careers. I saw Wayne Newton a couple of weeks ago in Vegas and I was absolutely stunned that he has the nerve to still get in front of an audience. He has no voice left at all. However, I think the public has just had enough of the Diva attitude from Ross. I also think that was one of the reasons she permitted her children to be taped during that recent interview. She's trying to reconnect with the public, trying to show her soft side, but they aren't buying.

I think it's unfair to say she's an untalented hack. She's just using her talents the wrong way, probably due to her diva attitude. The best thing she could've done is to be part of an *actual* Supremes reunion with Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong. Instead, she turned it into a fiasco.
