I remember Dan Rather shedding some tears as he announced, in a faltering voice, that the space shuttle Challenger had exploded. I think his emotional display was real, although I've had a few cynical moments over the years when I couldn't help but think of the TV news anchor played by William Hurt in 'Broadcast News.'

Both Barbara Walters and Tom Brokaw are retirig this year. Seems CBS may need to give Rather, Morley Safer, Ed Bradley and Mike Williams a little push.
