Cybill won't be alone. Back in the 70s when a dark tan was a sign of health, many burned themselves. George Hamilton was the 'tan-man' and Hawaiian Tropic was making a lot of money. I remember some of my friends getting as dark as they could. The damage that was done can take 25-30 years to appear such as melanoma.

Living in south Florida, I often see people who have had skin cancer surgery on their face and other areas. I recently had to work with an insurance agent who had skin cancer on his nose. He had the operation to remove it the previous day and the bandage slipped off when he sneezed to give me a unwanted look. It was not pretty.

Another sight that you can easily see is a long time sun-worshipper that has turned their skin into a leather-like appearance. Just go to Miami Beach or any area with retirees and you will spot one.
