Cybill Shepherd Battling Cancer Daily Record August 23, 2002

MOONLIGHTING star Cybill Shepherd is battling skin cancer.

The 52-year-old mother of three was diagnosed with melanoma and had a scaly patch removed from her back.

Her mum, Patty Micci, said skin cancer runs in the family, and the former model probably increased the risk by sunbathing a lot when younger.

Shepherd's spokeswoman said the actress had a benign growth removed seven months ago and has been having regular check-ups.

Why don't her people instead send out a press release for Cybill that says 'Actress fakes Cancer to Get Media Attention!' because that's exactly what this is. Hello?? 'Benign' and 'melanoma' are not synonymous. If she had a benign growth removed, she isn't 'battling cancer.' She's obviously desperate to get some press. That's the real story, not this bullshit! What a crock!

It's such an insult to people with real cancer...with MALIGNANT growths that have to be removed or radiated to smithereens. I'm sick of people like her and Pam Anderson. Why isn't there a public outcry over their fake illnesses??

I think maybe the writer means that she first had a benign growth removed awhile ago, and just recently discovered melanoma in the same area.
