BRITNEY Spears, the self-styled pop princess who wed for the second time last weekend, is telling friends she is expecting her first child, The Mail on Sunday has learned. A source close to the singer said last night: 'Britney has told only her family and closest circle that she is pregnant.'

The pregnancy, which Spears, 22, has privately admitted, is a dream come true, and marks the end of a turbulent year for the pop star.

First she eloped to Las Vegas with childhood sweetheart Jason Alexander, but the marriage was annulled after 55 hours. She met her new husband, dancer Kevin Federline, in April while he was still involved with actress Shar Jackson.

Federline, 26, has reportedly signed a pre-nuptial agreement which gives him $250,000 for each year of marriage if he and Spears split.

Last night the source said: 'Britney only learned she was expecting recently and she's less than eight weeks pregnant. It's why she pulled her wedding date forward to September.'

So the baby (if in fact there is one) will mark 'The end of a turbulent year' for Britney? Oh, Lord, no, a baby will make everything even more raucous. I'm grabbing a front-row seat and a big tub of popcorn for all the action.

gawd she is heading for such a trainwreck. a soap opera writer couldn't write a more melodramatic story.

I hope she is indeed pregnant. The girl is only 22 and she's desparate to have a little one, so be it. The baby will be absolutly beautiful coming from 2 gorgeous looking people. She'll kick everone out of the spotlight with the growing belly, the baby talk, the birth, & finally the grogeous little one. Let's see what will she call the baby - Hurricane Spears Federline.

Shame, poor Britney - the truth always just seems to get in the way of her 'perfect' image that ONLY she has. Oh, and the mom too.
