Schwarzenegger: 'Williams Had to Die' By WENN|Monday, December 19, 2005
HOLLYWOOD - Action man-turned-California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger insists he was right not to grant clemency to the late Stanley Williams, who was executed on Tuesday, because he couldn't find any evidence to keep the gang founder alive. The Terminator star held an eleventh-hour session with his closest advisors to consider Williams' case after an outcry of public support for the murdering Crips gang leader-turned Nobel Prize nominee.
Rapper Snoop Dogg and Jamie Foxx, who portrayed Williams in TV movie Redemption, were among the protestors pleading Schwarzenegger for clemency.
But the Governor said Friday, 'There was nothing there that made me go against the will of the people or the law or the opinions of all the judges and all the courts all the way up to the top.'
Schwarzenegger has yet to grant clemency to any Death Row inmates during his stint as Governor.
The next dead man walking who is set for a clemency hearing is convicted murderer Clarence Ray Allen, who is to be executed on Jan. 17.
