Antonio Banderas feels safer in Buenos Aires than in New York, the Spanish actor said in an interview.
'People asked me if I wasn't afraid to come here. Well, no,' he told Clarin newspaper.
'I'm more afraid in the streets of New York or Los Angeles,' he told the Buenos Aires daily.
Banderas is working on 'Imagining Argentina,' a film on human rights abuses during Argentina's 1976-1983 military dictatorship. The film by Christopher Hampton and includes British actress Emma Thompson.
'I feel a special responsibility in making this film,' he said, because it deals with the torture and presumed murder of thousands of Argentines who 'disappeared' while in police and military custody.
'Younger generations should know what went on here: A situation that could repeat itself in other countries,' he said.
Banderas has earlier appeared in 'The Mambo Kings,' 'The Mask of Zorro' and 'Evita,' which was filmed here.
