ASSOCIATED PRESS.....

Antonio Banderas feels safer in Buenos Aires than in New York, the Spanish actor said in an interview.

'People asked me if I wasn't afraid to come here. Well, no,' he told Clarin newspaper.

'I'm more afraid in the streets of New York or Los Angeles,' he told the Buenos Aires daily.

Banderas is working on 'Imagining Argentina,' a film on human rights abuses during Argentina's 1976-1983 military dictatorship. The film by Christopher Hampton and includes British actress Emma Thompson.

'I feel a special responsibility in making this film,' he said, because it deals with the torture and presumed murder of thousands of Argentines who 'disappeared' while in police and military custody.

'Younger generations should know what went on here: A situation that could repeat itself in other countries,' he said.

Banderas has earlier appeared in 'The Mambo Kings,' 'The Mask of Zorro' and 'Evita,' which was filmed here.

Maybe he just likes finding the end of her lips, finally.

Really? What a fascinating claim. Are you seriously going to claim that the crime rate in the US is higher than say, Angola? Liberia?

New Zealand, the Netherlands, England and Wales, and Canada all have a crime rate equal to or slightly higher than the US.

Try a cross comparison across different countries, and you'll find quite a few industrialized countries that have much higher crime rates than the US.

Tonight at a screening of 'Blue Crush' at the Grove, film critic Leonard Maltin was sitting across the aisle from us. Wonder how he liked it? <g>

I liked it, but if you're scared of the ocean and/or have a morbid fear of drowning, *don't* see this movie. It shows you waves from angles you don't ever want to see then from. Like underneath.
