If you wandered whether American Idol has the potential to open door for a career in music the answer is yes if you are good.
Two past American Idol contestants have been nominated for awards by the Academy of Country Music. Carrie Underwood was nominated for five ACMs: Top Female Vocalist, Album of the Year for Some Hearts and Song of the Year, Single Record of the Year and Video of the Year for “Before He Cheats.” Last year she was named Top New Female Vocalist at the 2006 ACMs. Kellie Pickler hopes she’ll be the next American Idol alum to take home that award, after she was nominated for Top New Female Vocalist this year.A lot is said about the career possibilities for contestants on American Idol. Surely there are much more options for the winners but even for the others the door is open if they can take advantage of the opportunities and offer real talent. At the other hand, the more realistic ones are those who try to get some sense into the whole thing
“The show may be fun to watch, but it’s the last place I’d recommend anyone go to learn how to succeed with a music career,” says Bob Baker, author of Guerrilla Music Marketing Handbook and Unleash the Artist Within. Baker compared notes with three other music business pros: Derek Sivers, Peter Spellman and Danica Mathes. All four agreed the show has created widespread misconceptions about what it takes to succeed as a musical artist in the modern world. They have identified five myths perpetuated by American Idol and are on a mission to set the record straight. It is recommended to read the whole post and discussion of Myths so you’ll have the whole picture.
