IS NEW 'IDOL' CAST BORING?

Bring back Justin? Is he SERIOUS? Justin was terrible... a total cheesy Vegas lounge singer. I read in US that Randy thought Justin's performance on AI2 a few weeks ago was still far better than any of this casts performances. I thought Justin was absolutely painful.

If he's not kidding, I'd love to know what, exactly, he prefers about Justin...the word 'showmanship' seems a little vague, and Justin always reminded me of a cross between a circus emcee and singing game show host. Also, his last outing on AI, when he reappeared to sing his new song, was godawful.

I honestly think the judges are just bitchng now for some added publicity. First Simon, then Randy...with Paula cooing 'why can we all get along?' in between.

All he did was sit on a stool and mumble some lifeless song for what seemed like 3 hours.

Randy is probably just trying to get his name in the press.

I don't have much use for some of Simon's 'advice' either, as he fawns all over certain people (Ruben, Carmen until he got sick of her, Christina last season) to the point of overpraising them and killing their chances, while he openly baits others (Josh, Clay). He wouldn't even look at Kim Locke for about a month, then started praising her, and is now back to not looking at her. Of all the people in this season he's given good advice mainly to Clay, who has taken it in spades. I was very disappointed that Simon didn't seem to realize the point behind Clay's Grease performance, that it was a 'THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED!!!' show for the judges. Deep down I get the feeling that Simon really doesn't want any of them, but thinks Ruben is the best of the lot. He gave an interview where he talked about how Ruben is the best singer and how Clay makes faces to try to manipulate the audience, that his reactions are not genuine, then he quickly added that Clay isn't the only one. Well, if my competition were constantly being hyped as the winner by the producers and judges, then I'd try to work the audience too.

I wish AI would get rid of the judges altogether in the public voting rounds. As you said, Paula is probably the one with the best track record for constructive advice this season, mainly because the other two are off their game. When she is critical, which is very rare, at least I can tell that it's absolutely something she is bothered by, whereas with Simon I get the feeling he's just pulling a con or trying to intimidate the person he's talking to.
