What I don't understand is what a respected, well-paid actor like Gandolfini is doing in this film. I can't believe it looked any better on paper.

Looks that way! According to boxofficemojo.com, Gigli earned $1.449 mil on its first day, so Surviving Christmas is doing just as badly. We'll have to see how the rest of the weekend goes, there's a very good chance that this could turn out to be even worse than that legendary bomb. Meanwhile look at how Matt Damon is doing - he had one of the biggest hits of the year with The Bourne Supremacy, and has Oceans 12 still to come in December. LOL!

the movie looks AWFUL and so does affleck. he is so un-funny and so un-interesting. in fact, he's creepy. he has a certain stone-cold look in his eyes that i find very creepy. he is not good-looking. he has always looked like a frat-boy rapist and it's only getting worse.

Yeah, but most of them need the $. Gandolfini's in danger of being typecast when Sopranos ends two years from now and needs to concentrate on memorable parts, even if they're in small indie movies. Flops like this will not enhance his reputation.

I'm a big fan of Gandolfini, but the sad truth is that other than Soprano-like roles, he's just not a particularly good actor. That 'Last Castle' movie was just painful to watch.
